Hydraulic Press Deep Drawing

Deep drawing is a manufacturing process used to create three-dimensional containers from flat sheets. Hydraulic deep drawing presses play a critical role in industries such as automotive, white goods, and natural gas. These presses, also known as “double-acting presses,” utilize rollers to apply pressure from above and support from below. The deep drawing process involves applying high pressure between male and female molds.

The products produced through deep drawing typically feature straight bases and require the use of mandrels and molds. Mold corners are designed with radius features to prevent tearing, ensuring smooth production. Additionally, the thickness of the sheet metal remains relatively stable throughout the deep drawing process.

Deep Drawing Manufacturing

So how does hydraulic press deep drawing work? Let’s take a closer look.

The process begins with a flat metal sheet being placed on top of the first die. The hydraulic press is then engaged, causing the first die to push the metal sheet down into the second die, which has a chamber shaped in the desired form of the final product.

The press exerts tremendous force, causing the metal sheet to conform to the shape of the second die. The end result is a seamless, one-piece product that is strong and durable.

Hydraulic press deep drawn can be used with a wide range of metals, including aluminum, brass, copper, nickel, stainless steel and titanium. This has made the process vital in industries such as automotive, aerospace, construction, and manufacturing.
